Save On Your Home Heating with ENERGY STAR

An ENERGY STAR qualified high-efficiency furnace  or boiler is a comfort in so many ways. You get a warm home all winter long. And it’s reassuring knowing you’re saving energy and money, with the number one way to reduce your home’s harmful emissions.

ENERGY STAR is an international symbol of energy efficiency. It helps you quickly and easily identify the most energy efficient products available to help you save energy, money and protect the environment. To qualify, natural gas furnaces must have an annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) rate of 95% or higher. Residential boilers must have an AFUE rating of 85% or higher.

Replacing and sizing your furnace

When replacing your furnace, choose one that is the right size for your home. A furnace of the proper size will operate more efficiently, last longer, save you money on heating throughout the season and provide more continuous heating – resulting in a more comfortable environment.

It is important to note a furnace’s efficiency when considering its BTU/hr input. When you buy a more efficient furnace, you likely won’t need to buy one with the same input as your current unit.  An AirPlus consultant can help you identify the most appropriate furnace or boiler for you home.

* As part of Canada’s ongoing efforts to address climate change and improve the environment a new national minimum energy performance standard for residential gas furnaces was introduced on December 31, 2009. This standard applies to virtually all gas furnaces sold in Canada and requires a minimum fuel efficiency level of 90%.
